The Situtation
Things have gotten a bit rocky with my father. From now on I will be paying for my own education and come Christmas I will be paying my truck insurance as well. Our recent verbal scuffle is the result of a stupid argument that is the latest in a line of really stupid arguments we regularly engage in. My father is of the mind that he would do anything at anytime for me and in return he expects the exact same thing from me in regards to anything.
He called me on Wednesday while I was out with a college friend having lunch. He had a technical issue with his printer and I told him I would call him in 30 to an hour but in the meantime he should call the printer company (HP) and have them help him resolve the issue. I cut lunch short and went back to the dorms. When I got back I got distracted and forgot to call for an hour. When I realized this I phoned his mobile and got the now standard “Hurricane screwed your line” message. Communication with home has been spotty since Katrina and as Dad had not yet called me I assumed he was either having the same phone issues or had fixed the problem. I went to Kung Fu. Big Mistake.
Dad called halfway to the stadium. Every time Dad calls now I feel a sense of dread: that cold tingle that travels up your spine and knocks too hard on the back door. The fact that his ring alone elicits this reaction is probably a sign that we have had issues for a while now. He proceeds to chew me out and at this point I am in no mood to have my arm twisted, or to now beg to help him. Working for him last summer was the worst experience of my life. One time after work I actually went straight to the drug store and tested my blood pressure because I thought I was having heart problems. Over the course of the summer my blood pressure went through the roof, I gained back all the weight I lost as school, and I worked an average of 60 hours a week. I was quite miserable and I am more than a little convinced my current state of discord is due to a form of post traumatic stress syndrome.
I hate to be doom and gloom about everything but I don’t know what my chances of continuing my education are without financial support. To top it off I still have no job despite my searching; ditto with the romantic situation.
The task of writing a letter to my Father summarizing my feelings now lies upon my shoulders. Wish me luck.
